What is VLCTechFest?

It is a day of talks for, and by, the technological communities of the Valencian Community. It is a day to discover, connect and share.

A conference with several parallel tracks featuring talks for all tastes, with time for questions, and space for networking.

A festival focused on participation, with free entry on the door as capacity permits and no ticket required. The first edition in 2018 was a success with more than 120 attendees coming to VLCTechFest.

See you there!

Whether an experienced speaker having given a talk at a meetup or a first-timer looking to get started, go ahead and propose a talk!

We are looking for informational sessions or talks directed at a technical audience, without requiring detailed prior knowledge of the technology or specific tool in question. Talks should be 30 minutes in duration with 15 minutes for questions (45 minutes in total).

The deadline for the submission of proposals ends on March 3. Shortly after we will let you know if your talk has been accepted. Only one talk will be accepted per speaker, but you can submit all the proposals you want.

In VLCTechHub we include diversity in our statutes and we are always looking for new initiatives to integrate underrepresented groups in the technical community. Here you can find the different initiatives we have for this festival:

Code of conduct

To ensure the event goes off without incident and that everybody is welcome, we have included a code of conduct.

Mentoring of speakers

To facilitate people from any background being able to give a session, we are organizing a group of volunteers with experience in giving talks to mentor people who have never given a session before—prioritizing people from underrepresented groups. If you are interested in using this help, please contact us [email protected]

Do you think we could do something else?

If you can think of anything else we could do to improve inclusiveness, do not hesitate to share it with us: [email protected]

Code of Conduct

All attendees, speakers, sponsors, partners and volunteers at our conference are required to agree to the following code of conduct. Organisers will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

In case it is necessary to report a violation of the code of conduct, you can get in contact with Emma ([email protected]) or David ([email protected]).

Who is this event for?

This conference is aimed to professional and technology students.

Must I be a member of a technological community of the Valencian Community to submit a talk or attend the event?

No, it’s not a must. Use that day to meet the existing technological communities.

How much conference tickets cost?

The event is completely free and the entry is free until seating capacity is reached.

Do I have to register?

No, there is no registration. It is enough to go to Las Naves on May 11, either the full day or specific sessions only. Keep in mind that seating capacity on the conference rooms is limited.

How do I get there?

You can reach to Las Naves by bike or by one of the following buses: 4, 19, 30, 92. If you come by car you shouldn’t have parking problems in the area.

Is there food/drink included?

No. There is a break between the morning and afternoon sessions so the attendees can eat wherever they want. You can eat at home, take your own food or go to a bar/restaurant in the area. There is also a shopping center nearby and Las Naves innovation center has a coffe shop. There will be water dispensers in the conference rooms, so if you have a water bottle you can bring it to reduce the waste of plastic.

Are the sessions going to be recorded?

We will do our best to have them recorded, but it depends on several factors and we cannot guarantee that all the sessions will be available for later viewing. If you do not want to miss the talks, the best advice is to go to the event ;)
